WebNov 21, 2024 · it seems in general there are mostly 3 nut widths used with solid body 6 string guitars, especially in rock/metal: -42mm (roughly 1 5/8 inch) -43mm (roughly 1 11/16 inch) -45mm (roughly 1 3/4 inch) it seems like the first two make up 99% of the guitars, and from my own experience I like the wider, 43mm nut width. The reissue dot neck which arrived in '81 seems to be the definitive changeover but I've seen a few late 70's 335's with a wider nut. It seems the exception rather than the rule, however. I don't see that many 70's 335's but, mostly, the nuts have been 1 9/16".
