WebJul 6, 2013 · When GM uses a plastic pulley or idler they do it for a reason (noise and chirping). Many replacements are steel. When they ride on the back of the belt, they love to make noise. If in doubt, get a plastic replacement. Luckily the Duramax didn't require plastic pulleys for the backside.

WebSep 4, 2016 · If it sounds like a whirring sound, could be you need to air up your shock as it's rubbing something (look for marks on the belt) or if the bike was recently washed, the belt itself can make a noise against the pulley. I usually jack the rear tire up, adjust the belt, start the bike, throw it in gear and adjust the belt so it is running dead center of the pulley. Started out small and only on larger bumps and now it is doing it quite often. I was thinking about having someone jump up and down on my rear bumper while I lay underneath my Jeep and find the source.
